This is not true there is no automatic 30-minute timer the order you place is tracked manually, after it is taken at the register it goes to the make station, after the prepper puts it in the oven, they interact with the computer, every time, and change the status if it's delivery then the driver/prepper will manually "send it on the road", at which point it is updated, in real-time with the real time, not some pre-set 30 minute timer. Also when we get busy the drivers will leave the store with 2-5 orders at a time, so it may be directly on its way to you, or it might be the last order in a set of 5 and will be there in another 45 minutes The problem you had was probably that the manager at your local store is worried about times, and has been clocking orders in and out for the drivers so dominos corporate sees good delivery times.Īs a former delivery driver, I hate the tracker because it will tell you when the order is leaving, but won't tell you how far the driver has to drive. When the timer is up, it moves the tracker to preparing for delivery automatically. When the last item in the order is put into the oven, it moves the tracker to baking and starts a 7 and a half minute timer. If the store is running by dominos standards the items are cleared off one by one as they enter the oven, though stores with managers who are looking to keep their times low sometimes clear all of them immediately, or after a minute or so. You place the order, and each individual item comes up on our make line screen. I'm a driver and manager at dominos, and I kinda hate the tracker. Same goes for ticket times - motivate people based on reports, the report scores will suddenly improve, even if the performance the reports supposedly measure doesn't. We haven't actually made service better, or improved our guest satisfaction, necessarily, but we sure have raised the scores, which is all the head office can really see. So, they will push for a "top box" response in any way possible, often laying it out fairly directly for the guest, because giving great service is a less guaranteed method for a top box response than begging for one (see: ever car purchase you've made in the past 10 years). Now you have managers that are highly motivated by a score, and not necessarily by engaged 5* guests (the two aren't necessarily the same). They evaluate managers based on these scores, and perhaps tie bonuses to them. Simple explanation is this - survey companies provide corporate HQ with data supporting the idea that "top box" guests (who rate you 5/5 or 9-10/10) are MUCH better customers (more frequency, higher ticket average, word-of-mouth generators, etc.) than 4/5 or 8/10 guests.Ĭorp decides that the answer is to improve business by aiming for an increase in top box scores. It is merely a 30 minute timer that you might as well ignore.Īre any of you surprised to learn this? Does this make you feel like you've been mislead? How can we respond to Domino's for making this tracker app not truly functional? The Domino's Pizza tracker app was a breakthrough for Domino's customer service as it gave people the feeling their pizza was being monitored and could be close by. It was then that I learned through a short conversation with the kind Domino's employee on the phone that the tracker is based on a 30 minute regular scheduled and has no connection or direct correlation to the progress of their pizza making or delivery. My concern led me to call Domino's and ask them what the status of my said delivered pizza was. I became worried and confused when I saw that my pizza order had been "Delivered and Completed" as I had paid for the pizza in advance and could already envision the other college students in the area thoroughly enjoying my delicious meal as the delivery car may have went to the wrong house. So the other day I ordered from Domino's Pizza and delightfully followed the progress of my pizza order on the Domino's Pizza tracker as it swiftly went through "Baking your Pizza" to "Preparing Your Order for Delivery!".
